Machine Appreciation Post

Meet my blindstitch machine!
Do you have that one machine that you're like,
"How did I function without this in my life?"

When I only had my sewing machine I was ecstatic that it could do button holes. My mind was blown! Then I got my serger and was constantly in awe at how great and easy it was to now finish projects like I did in classes. For a little background, my major's sewing lab was all industrial machines and there weren't a lot of available specialty ones if everyone was working on classwork. Having my own serger and sewing machine at home allowed me to cut everything out in the lab and then sew at home whenever I wanted. Well after starting Malotke Made, LLC I thought, how great would it be to have an embroidery machine to do more personalization for customers. So then I got my lovely embroidery machine and I am loving using it.

After those 3 machines I figured, how great would it be to not have to hand sew hems? Therefore I got my blindstitch machine! And honestly, I have missed having access to one ever since I first used it in the sewing lab. I have no issue finishing hems with a visible stitch or using hem tape, but before my blindstitch machine I really just hand stitched my hems. While working on my current show, Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, I have had to hem multiple garments and this machine has probably saved my a couple hours of my time.

Having my blindstitch machine has been a great asset to my life. It saves me time and money when finishing projects. I got the "portable" blindstitch machine, although I will not be taking anywhere, it is definitely my heaviest machine. So far I am really glad I got it and that it's a part of my little machine army in my office. I may post some little tutorials in the future, but it really is just nice to have a quick option to hem garments. Plus, I'm finally able to fix my own clothing. My work pants have needed to be properly hemmed for months and I've kept pushing it off until I got my blindstitch machine up and running. Huzzah for functionality!

Malotke Writes - Updated Website

Guess who got new headshots done? Me! I've been continuing to submit various written pieces (poems, drabbles, flash fiction, short stories, etc.) and have been needing headshots for some of the submissions. Since I have been using my photo from senior year of college (shot for the fashion show program) I had decided that maybe it was time for some new, and way more recent, photos.  Pictured left is one of my favorite photos from the photography session. I've already updated my website using a bunch of the photos and I've sent them off for social media / marketing for upcoming interviews & anthologies that I'm included in.  Here is a link to my writing website: Malotke Writes

Mood Board for Writing Characters

The Dire Circle - " The circle is dire, much like the outcomes of these stories. In this black zodiac themed anthology, you may come to dislike other people...maybe even yourself."   When I pitched an idea for "The Dire Circle" during 2021, I wasn't sure that it would even get picked. But, once it did and I was given a Black Zodiac to then develop my short story, I decided to do what I do for costuming a character - I made a mood board for my main character.  My Black Zodiac was the Serpent and my short story for the anthology is Twisted Tales, Dripping in Honey . My story centered around a very femme fatale main character with lots of buried secrets. I looked to old Hollywood glamour, dark reds, demon eyes, and other glints of seductress mixed with sweetness to create Melia . For me, coming up with a name was very difficult. After creating what should would look like, having an idea of her voice, her outfits, her drive, everything about her, I still needed the
