Making the Aspen Tank

Usually I make my own patterns and avoid using commercial patterns. I prefer making sure everything fits the way I want it to and then I don't need to make alterations like I do with commercial patterns. Plus, it's fun to drape and pattern from scratch. But I'm looking to expand my wardrobe and try to make more practical clothing that I'll wear instead of just fancy things that sit in my closet.  I've been trying to be more involved in a sewing community, especially since I'm in between costuming projects (my latest show doesn't open until September). So I joined  Seen & Sewn's Pattern  Testers group and tested out the  Aspen Tank .  Here is my progress: I am a fabric hoarder and love buying fabric even if I don't have a set plan for it. Starting the Design Process

My current production is "The Servant of Two Masters," and I am super excited to be the Costume Designer for the show. It will be set in the early 1950s as if we were filming a live audience broadcast show.  In preparation for my first production meeting I starting looking into the different fashions for the 50s (just in case we decided on a specific year). I love the ideas that the Director has for the direction of the show. I put together a few inspiration pages so I could be ready with whatever direction the show took off. I'm all set with calendars, planning sheets, measurement sheets, and more to stay organized during this whole process. I'm hoping the set designer picks colors soon so I can start doing sketches. Color is a big part of what fuels my designs. I could start with just blank sketches without color but I might just wait for the colors and see where it takes me design wise.  With the second unofficial production meeting (just a few of us in
