My current production is "The Servant of Two Masters," and I am super excited to be the Costume Designer for the show. It will be set in the early 1950s as if we were filming a live audience broadcast show.
In preparation for my first production meeting I starting looking into the different fashions for the 50s (just in case we decided on a specific year). I love the ideas that the Director has for the direction of the show. I put together a few inspiration pages so I could be ready with whatever direction the show took off. I'm all set with calendars, planning sheets, measurement sheets, and more to stay organized during this whole process. I'm hoping the set designer picks colors soon so I can start doing sketches. Color is a big part of what fuels my designs. I could start with just blank sketches without color but I might just wait for the colors and see where it takes me design wise.
With the second unofficial production meeting (just a few of us in attendance) we focused on narrowing down the different scenes for sets and the ideas the Director has towards character acts. I should have set colors soon and once I have those I'll redo my inspiration pages and start working on sketches for the different characters. I will pot as I go, I'm sure I will have many rounds of rough drafts for sketches.
